Historic McClendon House Living History Tours
Have you recently driven by the McClendon House at the corner of Houston and Vine and wondered about the families who once lived there? Living History Tours of the stately Bonner-Whitaker-McClendon House are scheduled for weekends in October allowing interested visitors to learn more about the history of the 1870s-era Victorian home and its colorful family members. Guided tours – featuring character actors portraying former residents dressed in period attire – are offered by the Society for the Restoration and Historic Preservation of the Bonner Whitaker McClendon House Inc. Character actors make history come alive.

Camp Ford Living History Weekend

Living history depicting the War between The States. Civil War era events, military re-enactors, civilian exhibits, and camps and equipment of that era. Camp Ford Historic Park, Hwy. 271 & Camp Ford Pkwy. Free. Donations are appreciated.

Cooks from Texas and other states will participate in an 8th annual sanctioned chili cook-off.
Rotarians will prepare vintage Shanghi Jimmy recipes for a nominal fee as a fundraiser for community projects; fee includes sampling of chili cooks’ throw down chili.

A year after moving to the Northeast to study at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where she was awarded a four-year, full-tuition scholarship, Boston’s WUMB radio station selected her as the 2008 Best New Artist of the Year. This fall, she placed among the top five in the Mountain Stage/NewSong competition in New York City. Coming up in 2011, Emily will return to the Caribbean for a two-week performance stint in Saint-Barthélemy, go on a full-band Texas tour with the Boston Boys surrounding music festival South by Southwest, and perform for the United States Consulate in Scotland.
