Tyler Texas Bed and Breakfast-The Rosevine Inn_Best in East Texas

Innkeeper Rose Vine Inn Bed & Breakfast
We all know it is hot in East Texas-especially during the Dog Days of
Summer-but let's admit that this year has been pretty nice-no 100+ days
yet and even a cool front coming through in the middle of July!!
Toward the end of July and going into August-believe it or not-there
is alot of "getting ready" for back to school!!
And, of course, last minute get aways-before school begins-
thus there are not a whole lot of special events in the area-
the blog I am posting will give you dates for the next two -Canton First Monday weekends-some of the events we know of through the middle of
September-and then, as we usually do in this blog-features of some of the places in the area that you may want to visit when you stay at The Rosevine Inn Bed and Breakfast.

This is always fun!

  CANTON FIRST MONDAY WEEKEND

THURSDAY JULY 31 THRU SUNDAY AUGUST 3

For over 150 years Canton, Texas has welcomed Shoppers to the World Famous First Monday Trade Days. FindThatVendor.com is your First Monday "Fone" Book online, helping you find the bargains you're shopping for at Canton Trade Days. Discover the merchants at the Grand Daddy of all Flea Markets, Canton First Monday Trade Days! Known worldwide as that "Canton Flea Market", First Monday Trade Days got it's name in the 1850's as the Circuit Judge came to the County Seat on the First Monday of every month. Swapping and trading just naturally sprang up around the Courthouse Square the weekend before Court on Monday. First Monday was moved to it's present location in 1965 and now up to 7500 vendors gather in Canton, Texas every month to display their wares from "apparel to zithers".

GREAT TEXAS BALLOON RACE AND FESTIVAL

It's a world class event attracting the very best competitive pilots from across the United States and the world.
Considered by many of the pilots that compete at the Great Texas Balloon Race to be the best run event on the circuit, the Great Texas Balloon Race earned Longview the official designation as "The Balloon Capital of Texas" by the Governor of Texas in 1985.
In 2013 Gregg County was proclaimed "The Balloon Race Capital of Texas" by the 83rd Texas Legislature.
Balloon Flights begin the National event on Tuesday morning with a flight over the City of Longview and continue each morning through Sunday over Kilgore, Longview and East Texas Regional Airport. Launch and landing sites change each day as they are always determined by wind and the weather.
Balloon Glows on Friday and Saturday night entertain crowds with an awesome display of color and excitement. One of the most popular things to do at the event as the public is able to get up close and watch how balloons are inflated and operate.
Live Concerts: Friday, August 1st is Roger Creager and Saturday, August 2nd is Tracy Lawrence.
Kids Land is a safe restricted area for children that requires a small separate entry fee. Activities and attractions differ from year to year but it is always a fun time.
Vendors display their arts, crafts and other merchandise in booths lined up along an improvised midway.
Food Vendors make sure there is always enough to eat and drink during the day and evening.  Takes place July 29th - August 3rd

Edwin McCain’s voice is everywhere.  At any given moment, a radio station is
playing one of his songs.  An American Idol hopeful is belting out “I’ll Be.”
A newlywed couple is dancing to “I Could Not Ask for More.” There’s Edwin
singing the National Anthem before the Atlanta Braves and the Dodgers play for
the pennant.  Before a NASCAR race at Talladega.  And at the NBA Finals.
We hear him in over 100 concert halls throughout the country every year, and
that’s not even counting the performances at the Super Bowl Village and
fundraisers for Habitat for Humanity, the Wildflower Camp Foundation,
Kyle Petty’s Victory Junction Gang and so many more. McCain’s innate
ability to write and perform songs that somehow every listener claims
as their own has made him one of the most enduring and downright likable
 entertainers of our generation.

The New York Times dubs Edwin the “great American romantic,” and his fans
do certainly agree but it’s the FUN that brings them back to his concerts every
single time he comes through town.  Edwin roars through soulful renditions of
his songs, tosses in irrepressible vintage R&B rhythms and turns his concerts
into parties.  His between-song-banter is more stand-up than rock star, drawing
as many laughs as cheers.

“It’s not about chart positions or record sales or anything like that,” insists the
man with 11 albums, a wall of platinum and gold albums that have sold in the
millions, and reams of Top 10, 20 and 40 hits, “it just has to do with people
coming together and sharing a moment, that's it. And that’s all I ever wanted
to do. I just love that moment in the small club and bar where every single
person in there has a moment where it’s silent and they get it and it’s beautiful,
that moment where the music that’s coming off the stage is much more than the
players and much more than the audience and something happens and you’re
sitting there and your hair stands up. That’s it, man. I love it.”

Opening for Edwin McCain is "Michealis"
Michaelis is made up of Meagan, Mallory and Madeline—their surname
doubles as their band name—the group has been winning over audiences throughout its native Texas since youngest member Madeline was only 5 years old. “They’d sneak me through the back door of the honky-tonk and then I had to leave right after the show,” says Madeline.  Now all grown up, the girls spent the past two years collaborating with visionary Nashville producer Dave Brainard (Jerrod Niemann, Brandy Clark)
on their debut album, a collection of songs that marries the traditional country their father played for them while growing up with the ’90s showmanship of artists like
Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and, another Texas trio, the Dixie Chicks.

With harmonies as tight as their sisterly bond and a sexy, swaying sound all their own, Michaelis is a breath of fresh air in an often stifled and male-heavy musical environment.  “There is no fabrication going on with our songs. It’s very much us and we’re part of their creation.
Our songs are about love, our faith and how we see the world—and how we wish other
people would see the world,” says Meagan, 25, who sings lead. Raven-haired Mallory,
21, rocks the rhythm guitar and, as the heart of the band, lays down the group’s signature
low harmonies, while 18-year-old Madeline is the trio’s multi-instrumentalist, playing
lead guitar, mandolin and nearly anything with strings, while providing a near-angelic
high harmony. “I hope people can admire the love in our family and our relationship when they
hear our music, because we’re best friends,” Mallory says. “We’d like that to
speak to people.”
